ITT IIW: Short Burst Data Communications

Short Burst Data Communications

IIW designed, developed, deployed, and maintains Iridium's Short Burst Data (SBD) service for the Department of Defense's Enhanced Mobile Satellite Services (EMSS) and for commercially-available Iridium satellite services. SBD is a global, low-latency data communication service, capable of delivering about 2-kilobyte data payloads to or from any location on the planet. SBD subscriber equipment can send approximately 125 bytes of data in 1 second, and be off the air in less than 3 seconds. Global coverage and extremely short on-air times per call makes SBD a highly desirable communications capability for a variety of communications including tactical, remote sensing, and tracking operations. Over half of all Iridium call sessions are SBD.

We integrate SBD into various solutions to provide global, on-demand data capabilities for a variety of mission-critical applications.
