RSU-1000 Rugged Storage Unit

ITT's Intelligence and Information Warfare is developing the next generation of high performance, high capacity, forward-deployable rugged storage for use in the harshest environments — air, land, and sea.

The RSU-1000 Rugged Storage Unit is the first product of this endeavor. It provides IT Data Center/Enterprise Class storage performance, capacities, availability, and capabilities. Utilizing the storage industry's premiere ultra-high performance controller technologies, the RSU-1000 offers 50TB with 4.5 - 5.0GB/s throughput in a 5U configuration. The industry's highest reliability is delivered with RAID-6, 8 data/2 spare data protection. High performance interfaces include FC-8, Infiniband (IB), and 10GB Ethernet.

The RSU family of products will utilize 1.8" or 2.5" form factor drives and support Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and/or Solid State Disk (SSD) technology. The drives are housed in newly-developed RuggedPac removable modules. RuggedPac modular technology allows for hot-swap Remove/Return (R/R) while the data collection is ongoing. The RSU-1000's RuggedPacs can be removed in about 4 minutes for 50TB+ of critical data. This means that if the mission platform can be refueled and extended, the mission is able to continue until it's complete — data storage limitations will no longer prematurely determine the end of the mission.
